Description 36 pages Chanute Field was named in honor of Octave Chanute ( 1832-1910 ). Distinguished engineer and pioneer in the theory of aviation. Many of the principles of aerodynamics which he conceived more than a half century ago were employed in the first airplanes built and are fundamentals even today. His name is perpetuated in Chanute Field.
