Positive Battery Bushing

As lead-acid batteries age, positive plate growth occurs which causes the positive terminal post to move upward. This movement can distort the top of the battery case and cause it to bulge upward. This can ruin the battery if it cracks the cover or breaks the seal. To prevent this, some companies install a rubber floating bushing instead of welding the terminal post to the cover. The floating bushing prevents positive plate growth from damaging the cover. It allows the terminal post to move upward without distorting the cover. This ensures a longer battery life. The rubber bushing maintains the seal against both the battery cover and the terminal post when positive plate growth occurs.
